Chuma Qwalela is a Strategy Executive and Board Member with over 20 years’ experience across public, private, and non-profit sectors. As Head of Strategy and Business Integration at Rand Mutual Assurance, she leads digital transformation initiatives driving operational excellence, customer-centric innovation, and social insurance reform in South Africa. Chuma has held leadership roles at the South African Reserve Bank and the Johannesburg Stock Exchange, where she steered major regulatory and technology modernization programs.
A passionate advocate for innovation, inclusion, and women in tech, Chuma champions digital ecosystems that expand access to insurance for underserved communities. She is driven by a belief in Africa’s potential to lead in insurtech innovation, harnessing AI, data, and partnerships for sustainable growth.
Chuma holds an MBA from the Gordon Institute of Business Science and has completed executive studies at Harvard Business School.
